MY TOP 5 OVERLOOKED FILMS

Sometimes you stumble on a film and you think to yourself. “Why aren’t people talking about this!!?’ "And why did it take me so long to find it!?" Well don't cry okay? I am here to help you out. Here are my 5 films that deserve more viewings and attention…

THESE FINAL HOURS (2014) - Dir Zak Hilditch

As Earth approaches a cataclysm that will be its end, a self-obsessed man heads for the party-to-end-all-parties, but he ends up saving the life of a little girl who is searching for her father…

Very simple, thought-provoking and though the ending feels familiar, its journey to the literal end is totally worthwhile.

AFTER THE DARK/THE PHILOSOPHERS (2013) - Dir John Huddles

A philosophy teacher tells his students that they must choose 10 people from among their group to take shelter during a nuclear holocaust and reboot the human race.

This is a film more about ideas than story. Though it has elements of teen-fantasy, this ends up being a very deep, thoughtful and very creative viewing. You may get a migraine from all the interesting questions being raised though.

GATTACA (1997) - Dir Andrew Niccol

A genetically inferior man assumes the identity of a superior one in order to pursue his lifelong dream of space travel.

I don’t remember the last time I was so tensed while watching a movie, THE QUIET PLACE (2018) is an exception. This film has very high stakes, an interesting world and fantastic Actors in the lead. Easily one of my top Sci Fi films of all time.

THE QUIET EARTH (1985) - Dir Geoff Murphy

A man called Zac Hobson awakens to find himself alone in the world. In a desperate attempt to search for others, he finds only two who have their own agenda.

Strange, slow and low budget. This film makes up for all that with an amazing premise, interesting world building and deep themes and does so brilliantly.

DARK CITY (1998) - Dir Alex Proyas

A man struggles with memories of his past, including a wife he cannot remember, in a nightmarish world with no sun.

This is a stylish neo noir film that is so underrated. It features interesting characters, a fantastic world, interesting story and plenty of twists and turns. Plus Kiefer Sutherland gives a performance that is so far from what we have been used to him doing.

BONUS FILM;

THE SCORE (2001) – Dir Frank Oz

An aging thief hopes to retire and live off his ill-gotten wealth when a young kid convinces him into doing one last heist.

Thank me later for the bonus.
